Touring the Mary Saunders Beiermann Emergency Department was a top priority for U.S. Congressman Chris Collins on Tuesday, November 24th. The Congressman had spent the day at multiple locations in Livingston County with his last stop in the afternoon at Noyes Health.

“We were pleased that Congressman Collins had the opportunity to tour the Emergency Department project.” said Noyes Health CEO, Amy Pollard.” Graham Frazer, Jim Culbertson and Domenick Martello from the Noyes Health Board of Directors along with the Noyes Administration met with Congressman Collins prior to the tour to discuss the challenges facing hospitals, especially rural hospitals

Congressman Collins was very familiar with the impacts of major changes in reimbursement and insurance, the government imposed initiatives such as electronic medical records and the impending change in 2014 to an expanded system of codes used for billing and data collection.

Congressman Collins was very impressed with the progress of the Emergency Department project in such a short amount of time. He also commented on the support from the community for the project and cited this as a strength that will ensure access to healthcare for years to come.

The project is an expansion and renovation project with a cost of $7.3 million inclusive of equipment costs. The Hospital jumpstarted this effort by securing a prestigious $4.69 million grant through New York State’s Healthcare Efficiency and Affordability Law (HEAL NY) in June 2012.

In addition to the grant award, Noyes Hospital received a $750,000 leadership gift for the Emergency Department from E. Philip and Carole Saunders, residents of Livingston County, and the Saunders Foundation in memory of their late daughter, Mary Saunders Beiermann. The new facility will be named the Mary Saunders Beiermann Emergency Department.

Congressman Collins had one request: “An invitation to the grand opening”
